Avril Lavigne has been asked to postpone a concert in Malaysia, reports Reuters.
Promoters of the Canadian singer's concert have been told to cancel the Kuala Lumpur gig on August 29 because it would brush with Malaysia's independence sidereal day celebrations.
The country's opposition Islamic party Parti se-Islam Malaysia had sooner called for the concert to be called off, saying that the preponderantly Muslim land should not welcome Western values and cultures.
An official for the Malaysian cultivation ministry aforesaid: "We did not refuse the concert. We asked them to find another date as the original date is so close to the independence day. That's the only reason."
However, organisers ar adamant that the concert will go forward, with more than half the tickets already sold.
"As far as we are concerned, the record is still on," a spokesman said.
